Mitigation Bank Announces Initial Credit Release in Central Virginia

Tye River Mitigation Bank in Nelson County approved for initial riverine credits by Corps of Engineers Norfolk District.

ARRINGTON, Va. - Tye River Mitigation Bank has been approved for its initial release of riverine credits by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District’s Interagency Review Team (IRT). Centrally located on 440 acres inside the fast-growing triangle of Lynchburg, Charlottesville, and Staunton, the bank will offset unavoidable environmental impacts to streams and riparian areas within its Geographic Service Area (GSA).

With riverine credits ready on the shelf, Tillman Conservation, LLC, the bank sponsor, will proceed with a multi-phase plan that is expected to generate a significant number of stream credits over the lifetime of the bank. The service area for the bank includes portions of Albemarle, Alleghany, Amelia, Amherst, Buckingham, Chesterfield, Goochland, Greene, Fluvanna, Nelson, Nottoway, Powhatan, Prince Edward, and Rockbridge Counties. Once fully restored, Tye River Mitigation Bank will be protected in perpetuity to forever contribute to the ecological integrity of this beautiful and historic region of central Virginia.

Mitigation bank credits are the preferred method of providing compensation for the unavoidable loss of jurisdictional Waters of the United States, including riparian buffers under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act.

Trout Headwaters, Inc. based in Livingston, Mont. has been tasked with co-management responsibility for Tillman Conservation, LLC in order to insure successful management and compliance for this important project.  For more information about riverine credit availability or to discuss your particular project needs, please visit https://www.tyerivermitigation.com/, Email: info@tyerivermitigation.com or call  (866) 725-8883.
